Do People Really Change?

I've often heard that people don't change or that "Folks don't change anything but they drawers". Wow, now that's disconcerting.  In my opinion, people can change whenever they get ready. Notice I said when "they" get ready, not when you get  ready for them to.

Individuals change their behavior or how they look or what they believe only if they feel like something is wrong.  If they think everything is all good, everyone else can just go sit down because they'll just talk themselves to death trying to make someone do what they want them to do.

Of course change does not come overnight. I've been overweight all of my adult life but I had to get to the point where I wanted to do something about it.  It didn't matter what my family, friends or co-workers said, I was going to be fat and get fatter for as long as I wanted to be that way.  Now that I'm tired of looking this way, I want the pounds to instantly disappear.

HA HA!!! Not going to happen.

It took me over a decade to get to my largest weight, so it will take me more than a year to get to a size that I'm comfortable with.

I'd like to blame my job for getting me fat.  All of the goodie day/pot luck/parties we had on a regular basis. The stress of several positions that I held.  I guess I could say that I've been feeding my depression because I'd rather be at home writing instead of crunching numbers in my cubicle.  I'm working on changing that as well.

All good things come to those who wait. That's not true.  Change comes when you work for it.  Now that sounds better and more realistic.

How have you changed over the years? If you're stuck in a rut, what would you like to change?
